Fort Myers Beach Art Association and Gallery to host an Open House Jan. 5

January 3, 2018
FL Guide

Fort Myers Beach Art Association will host an open house Friday, Jan. 5, from 9 to noon.

A variety of member artists will be doing demonstrations of some of the types of art produced at the working art gallery. The morning includes the unveiling of the popular new mini-masters (priced at $10), refreshments, information about membership benefits, class descriptions and schedules. The current show, Art Divine where nothing is priced over $150, will continue to be on display and sale until Jan. 11.

FMBAA new mini-masters will make their debut and go on sale as part of the event. These small treasures, donated by members for the benefit of the FMBAA, sell for $10 each. The 8x10 matted works feature beautiful beach scenes, abstracts and collage. You might even find a mermaid, dolphin or other sea creature.

FMBAA Board Members will serve refreshments and welcome guests. There is no charge for this event. You will be able to talk with artists from each of the special painting groups: Outdoor (plein air) Painters, Indoor Painters, Experimentalists, and Portrait and Figure Painters. Information on workshops, classes, special short workshops given by members and all the art association events will be available. See what makes this group a treasure of Fort Myers Beach for over 66 years.

This is a working gallery where you never know what you will find when you get there. Most Tuesdays you can find the experimentalists using all kinds of techniques and mediums, Wednesdays we have indoor and outdoor painting. Some Tuesdays have the Portrait/Figure drawing group.

Short classes and workshops are on other days, some with supplies provided. If you are interested in learning to paint, several short workshops are being taught at the Fort Myers Beach Art Association this season. Check out the website at .

The Art Association is much more than a gallery. It is a community of people brought together by an appreciation for a wide variety of artistic expression, the work ethic to volunteer to keep the organization thriving, caring and having fun with social activities such as our potlucks, receptions and gallery talks.

Also coming up, with a date not yet set in ink, acrylic, watercolor or oil, is the annual Paint Around competition. Four artists, four canvases and two hours to complete four paintings with touches of style from each artist. This year's event will be ticketed. Check the Observer soon for more information about this exciting event.

Both the Open House and the Paint Around help raise money for the FMBAA's Student Scholarship Fund.
