The 42nd Annual Sanibel Captiva Art Leauge's Juried All Members Show will open at BIG ARTS Phillips Gallery Thursday, Jan. 4, along with "On Location: A Plein Air Show" in the Founders Gallery.

The community is cordially invited to receptions for both exhibitions from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 and meet the local artists. Complimentary wine and h'ordeuvres will be served in the Phillips Gallery with refreshments available in the Founders Gallery.

This year's SCAL theme, "Show Off," features fresh works of art in a variety of mediums never before exhibited in public by SCAL members.

"The theme can be interpreted in many ways, so we thought it would be interesting to see what the artists would do with it," said Anita Force-Marshall, SCAL vice-president and exhibition chair. "It's worth a visit."

SCAL was organized in 1964 to further the community's interest in art, as well as be a place artists can exchange ideas and grow their skills. It has a history of juried exhibitions at BIG ARTS.

"We are excited to have these local artists' work on display in the Phillips and Founders Galleries," said Hyde Tucker, president of BIG ARTS. "Their encouragement, friendliness and participation are a central part of the Art League and have certainly contributed to its stability over the years."
